Check out new song Le Li Jaan from the movie “Lipstick Under My Burkha” was recently released and it has our curiosity increasing by the second. Le Li Jaan, a carnival song from Lipstick Under My Burkha, is based on a popular Afghani folk song. The music video has different scenes from the movie with a peppy soundtrack that ties it all together, reminding us of a Tom and Jerry-esque chase sequence.
Lipstick Under My Burkha tells the stories of four Indian women seeking more from life than docile domesticity. Young mother Shirin feels she must hide her professional success from her husband. Ambitious beautician Leela takes the lead with her Muslim boyfriend even as her family arranges her marriage to a nice Hindi boy. College girl Rehana is the Cinderella figure of the quartet whilst the older, irrepressible Auntie Usha sets her sights on a hunky swimming instructor. All of them are freedom fighters against a deeply patriarchal society in this colourful and wildly engaging production.
The films stars Konkona Sensharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles. The film was in headlines when the censor board raised objections over the films content and scenes saying that the film is too ‘lady oriented’ and filled with obscenity. While it was struggling for a release in India, the film was sweeping coveted awards everywhere else at various international film festivals.
